Aquatica Aqua View yellow cast?

6 posts
  1. Hi All,

I just recieved my aquatica aqua view today amid much excitement as is usual when spending more than $1k on something. I read reports of a yellow cast (and saw it at dema) in the pre-production models that was supposed to be corrected with coatings in the finished product and can't find mention of any recently.

My viewfinder has a slight yellow cast (similar to the one at dema) when looking through it at home (makes my sky blue bedroom wall look green). I have not used it underwater yet, but would like people's input on thier viewfinders.

Here's a pic using my 60mm of a white wall framed partially through the viewfinder and partially not. The pic is a jpeg straight out of the camera and has only been resized.

Seems a bit much to me. Is this normal? do others have it too??

    Cheers,

    Chris

  2. Mine has a slight yellow cast. It's only noticeable when I look at a white wall through it and then without it, not anywhere close to making a blue surface look green. I didn't notice it at all underwater.

  3. I notice it underwater but since the main purpose is to read the displays and frame the image, it isn't a big problem.

  4. haven't really noticed it, but it is not in front of the lens! so in my opinion no big deal

  5. I might have been the one that brought this up. I have spoken to the folks at Backscatter and another dealer that works with Aquatica both say the same thing. The current cast to the glass is intentional "to warm things up a bit" but much less than the prototype some dealt with. My original concern was I might over expose shots a little since I shoot manual, like many. After 3-4months I love the viewfinder and it's been a big help in framing shots.

  6. ok, sounds like the tinting is standard-issue. not too keen on it, but you guys are right that it shouldn't really affect the shooting.

just wondered if i may have accidentally gotten a pre-production or uncoated sample. guess not. can't wait to get it in the water. cheers,
