The day you purchase an Ikelite housing, you are going to be taken care by Ikelite :-)
Which means strobes and everything, it could be good and it could be limiting .... IT's good for the most part. Ikelite strobe offers a "manual EV" trigger system which basically picks up the flash from the P&S camear and then fire the strobe. The Manual EV controller is an optical sensor that senses your camear flash light when it execute. The manual EV connects to the Ikelite strobe via a cable. The strobe can be DS51 or DS125 (highly recommended), those 2 are the most popular. When the camera flashes, the EV controler picks up the info and then fire the strob via the cable.
Slave mode basically means no pre-flash so when the camears flash goes off, the Manul EV goes to work too. http://ikelite.com/web_pages/mansensors.html
Slave mode is a camera setting, check the camera to see if it offers slaves mode flash. Most do, just need to know how. If it doesn't, get a different cameara instead !! With Ikelite system because they have a manaul EV that mount on the handle bar, no nasty mounting require. Other mounting require you to put a valco or something in front of the flash light ..... P&S w/ manual EV and some Ikelite strobe are perfect getting started system.
Don't buy Epoque, many of us had Epoque, they always ended up flooded despite how secure it may be locking the battery compartment but it will flood somehow ! Get a Ikelite DS51 for your system, it will work well !
