1 Gb Memory Stick

  1. Just read announcements of 256,512 and 1024 Mb Memorysticks from Sony and Sandisk

Finally more space for us cybershot photographers.

Big question though: will they fit?

Anyone has a clue where to find out what the maximum memory stick size is your camera can handle?

Most current sony cams are/were produced when 128 Mb was the biggest stick.

But still, 1 Gb = 400 photo's on my F707, better buy an additional 15 liter tank too

    :P

  2. It's not so much the capacity that is the problem here. The cards you are referring to are Memory Stick PRO cards, not regular old run-of-the mill Memory Stick cards; your -707 will not be able to use them. Memory Stick PRO, while the same size as standard Memory Stick, has twice as many connectors and will not work with older standard Memory stick devices. However, should you decide to upgrade to the -717, it will be able to use the new cards. There are a lot of users who are quite irate with Sony at the moment. After they promised that the old memory stick would be available in larger sizes, they turned right around and changed the format!

  3. Bummer!

I wouldn't trade in my F707 for an F717 just for this. If I were going to buy a new camera I'd go for the Nikon D1x / D100.

But for the moment I'm very happy with my 707 and just stick to making 60 shots per dive (which is already a treat compared to the 36 you'll get on a film roll)
