I accidentally ran into this feature, it may be in the manual somewhere but I don't remember seeing it. If you press and hold the 'manual' button a menu will pop up that you can select between the 4 different options for the manual ring and you can choose to reset (once you have it all horked up ). You can scroll through the menu options using the manual ring and make your selection by pressing manual again. I put the camera into the housing and everything works as expected. I can now set a manual exposure, and then go back to using it for focus or wb shift. When i change scenes I can reset.

Yep, same feature is on the HC7 where it can access the focus, exposure, AE shift, WB shift, & shutter speed with the manual button and the dial/roller. A real shame that Sony just didn't add MWB to this control. How hard would it have been to program that in instead of housing manufacturers having to work out funky controls to access the MWB through the touch screen!!
Has anyone done a side by side comparison between the HC-7 and A1-U?
