Fuji F40

  1. I am just back from the Red Sea and did a couple of dives with my Fuji F40 which I found was an excellent undewater camera. I shot the camera on auto-exposure (on -2/3 stop) with an Inon 165 WAL and Auto-Magic filter and no flash. In the top 10m I shot on auto WB and below this, down to 18m I used manual WB. Very impressed with the ease of these point an shoot results. I even shot a short video of the Napoleon (although can only shoot videos on Auto WB).

Very impressed with the short shutter lag on this camera. The battery performance was also really good.

  2. Nice!

Alex, did you use the Auto ISO setting or did you set ISO manually?

As an F31fd user, I've found that noise is very low at ISO 400. I've picked up a set of Auto Magic for the F31fd.

What are your thoughts on the Inon 165? I'm undecided between the 105 and the 165.

I am a great lover of fisheyes - so I would not consider a compact that was not full compatible with the 165. It is a lovely lens.

  4. Reading this thread reminds me of playing golf with the resident pro. After I had several frustrating attempts to hit my driver, he uses it and knocks the ball about 300 straight down the fairway. Both the above photos and the drive are some very nice shots.

  5. Nice shots Alex - is there a manual mode on the F40?

  6. There is no full-manual or no RAW. I would not recommend this camera if you want to shoot an external strobe - where a full manual would generally be useful. I got the camera pure for shooting wide angle with filters and for snaps on land. The camera does have a manual mode - although this is really an auto mode with the chance to adjust things. With filters I found that this auto-manual mode worked perfectly without any need for adjustment.

Really like the 3rd photo of the Wreck. Is this the Thistlegorm?

We dived it several times last week with Alex.

The pic and angle shown has become somthing of a classic shot - it can also be quite a difficult one.
