  1. Hello,

I'm looking at buying a Sony HC7 for work and am considering the Ocean Images housing - but I haven't been able to find any reviews on this camera/housing combo. If you've had any experience (good or bad) with Ocean Images I'd love to hear your thoughts!

    Thanks for your help,

    Emily

  2. Hey Emily,

I know a couple folks who have their housings and they love them. Matter of fact, I was fascinated by the first one I saw down in Coz, 'cozing me to develop a new hobby. I ended up with a Gates/Sony, but the OI housings get good reviews. Check out Digitaldiver.net in the Moving Pixels forum--lots of stuff on the OI housings. Made here in FL and the folks there provide awesome customer service, according to my buds.

    Regards :) ,

    Rick

Dr. Bill of Catalina Island in California is using the HC-7 with this housing. He has some posts over at ScubaBoard in the Video forum. I have the HC-7 with Gates housing and really like it (I know, a bit pricier then the OI housing..) I believe the major complaints from Dr. Bill has been the lack of ability to manually white balance, and not being able to focus on close subjects. Neither of these are issues with the Gates..

  4. Thanks for your replies!

I think the Ocean Images housing has an upgrade option allowing white balance control. I'll have to look into that further because the Gates is out of my budget unfortunately!

    Cheers,

    Emily

Actually dr. bill uses the TopDawg housing.

For $200 O/I adds two mechanical controls that allow you to access various functions on the camera's LCD screen. Including white balance.

Thanks for clearing that up! Sorry for the confusion!
