Nikon D300 coming soon...

A serious french mag (Chasseurs d'Images) is giving a short description from the new Nikon D300 :

- 12/13Mpix

- new AF

- integrated D-lighting to extend dynamic range (good for HL?)

and...

- the same magnesium alloy body as the D200

but...

- new external design

Does it fit in a D200 housing ?? If the picture in the mag is a real one... could be the case!

What is the integrated D-lighting?

I believe D-lighting is a software gimmic. It basically applies the "fill light" function like in the new photoshop or lightroom. I could be wrong though.

So if this mag is right (they have a 50/50 record more or less) then the D300 would be like a D200 w/ the D2x sensor. Nice!

50/50 does not seem very conclusive.

Makes some sense in that it would leave a path open for a D3x later in the year or whatever.

But does it make any sense to cripple the current D200 sales ?

All in all it seems to be an endlessly quick treadmill, both my bank and partner says that I need to miss taking part in the next round anyhow !

I suspect that the D300 will be similar to thouse specs. BUT do they give a date. I would not expect a D300 announcement untill 2008.

A new Canon 40-D will be coming as well, PMA January 31, 2008 sounds about right.

This seem to be the season for rumors. I think people are just bored.

the D300 is not a rumor for me... as I said: it's a serious mag - wait and see...

This is what Olympus has had to say about the latest leaked rumor regarding its E-1 replacement. As the sign in Herb's photo says the camera is expected in 2007.

We all know the D200 and 30-D will be replaced by newer models, the only question is when. Olympus says prior to the end of 2007, I am sure we will hear from Nikon and Canon in the next few months as well. Until then my E-1 is still working quite well.

16 July 2007 - Olympus has moved to quash rumours online about a leaked PowerPoint presentation that supposedly contained info about its forthcoming "P-E1" digital SLR.

In a statement to Pocket-lint a spokesman for the company said:

"We are not in a position to comment on any of this information but what I can say is that Olympus has not released a presentation on any new SLR body

following the launch of the E-410 and E-510."

"We are devoted to developing the E-1 successor model in order to make an announcement and launch the product within this year."

Hmm... Interesting. I can't see how that statement will quash the rumor. They did not say that any of the information in the leaked PowerPoint is not true. Just that they did not release it. We all knew that. That statement contains no new information.
