The batteries of my subtronic are broken - and I don't want to change them anymore causes of the weight of the strobe and also the cost of replacing/ waiting time/age strobe, etc I am now considering an economical and light solution so my first choice would be 2 ys-110 strobes. I just made a major investment by buying a new housing for a d80 (a hugy) so... For the moment it only has one nik V strobe connector.
What would be the best way. The local dealers overhere in Holland and Belgium have very different opinions. One is claiming that the internal slave is strong enough. The other claims I absolute need an optical cable to attach the slave strobe to the main one. But I guess that this cord is toot short for wide angle...
My idea was that a dual cord would work best - but is there anyone overhere that uses the dual cord together with the ys110's?
thank you,
Reine
Hi Reine
Im using S&S housing for my Nikon D50 and D80.
i dont have YS-110, but i do have YS-90 auto.
For both housings i'm also using Dual Sync Cord to connect YS-90 auto 2 unit.
Everything work flawlessly!
Hi Reine,
I'm using two YS-110's with a dual cord. I have an SP-350 in an Olympus housing, with a Heinrichs Weikamp Nikonos bulkhead.
I was using a ys90 and a 110, and found that it gave me very uneven lighting. Having switched to two 110's this problem has been solved.
In TTL, they seem to overexpose a bit (this may be more to do with the Olympus circuitry), I adjust this using the flash intensity settings on the camera.
Otherwise they work 100% fine
All the best
Adam

I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to slave off of a primary strobe. The problem is the cable is too short. I've found that if you put too much tension on those cables the slave doesn't fire reliably. I had a discussion a few weeks back that lead me to a place that sells just the cable fairly cheaply so that I can make the length of the cable what I want. I will tell you that my YS27DX slave doesn't fire without a cable in a reliable manner.
