This is about 2cm wide and came drifting by in the dark the other night. What is it?

It's an anemone of some sort. Not exactly the kind of thing you expect to see in the water column! There are species which will pull themselves away from the sediment or rock & drift into the current to get away from predators. It may have also been pulled up by a predator (or a diver) & then released.
