Need critique and help with editing

  1. Hi everybody,

Althought I have been diving for about 9 years and currently work as a divemaster I have just recently picked up photography. I'm shooting with a DC600 w/ 2 digital strobes. Before I go in the water I set my ISO to 100 and usually the white balance to cloudy. I'm looking for some critique on my photos, these were taken today all on the same reef. I also need some suggestions on what editing program to use and what to do to the photos. These photos are uneditied, I dont know the aperature or f-stop and the camera doesnt let me set them, it just has the auto, I think.

This was the third time I've used the camera and I think I'm getting pretty good at it, just looking for somebody elses point of view.

  2. you have a nice photos Mar-y-sol, am not expert but you should have use flash as your whitebalance, shoot in raw if your DC600 has a feature on it then later you can adjust when you process it. use photoshop to edit your photos for adjusting hue/saturation, sharpen and curves. try cropping the pix. thanks for sharing.

  3. Just FYI:

I think you may have the ID of your Honu (turtles), backwards.

The first pix is a Hawksbill as you can note it's pronounced beak and serrated scutes.

The other two lack these key features and look more like the green sea turtle.

Overall your pix are good, watch out for backscatter; which plaques us all, and reset your whitebalance with you dept which will help with bringing out the colors in areas such as the honu's scutes.

Other than that, they are great shots and I am thrilled any time I come across these little guys.

    laters.

  4. Yep definitely a Hawksbill first and Green the other two turtles.

If you can get the people in your pics a little closer to the foreground subject it will put more colour into them and make the pics "pop" a little more.

    Regards

    Gary
