Vinny...My wife and I did a couple of dives with Aquarius a year ago June and were not really pleased. Their operation is like that famous fire drill. My advice is follow your gear. They have no idea who is going on what boat and they load those boats up....can you say "mooo"? We went to a reef with the 30 or so divers on our boat only to meet up with 15....count em....other boats at the same spot.

Our observations may be a bit tainted in that we had just returned from a week liveaboard in Marsa Alam (sp) where we had been treated royally. \

    Hope this helps.

  3. cheers seank

thanks for the advice , i have dived with emperor before in sharm and they do seem pretty professional

it was just aquarius is at the hotel we're staying at and thought if they were ok we would use them

  4. Emperor, definitely.

Sadly, except for the boat trip to Abu Nuhas in good weather, the diving out of Hurghada is no longer the best, even in the over-dived northern Red Sea.

I recommend trying to swim slowly and avoid the crowd, waiting for the fish to come back out. Take your time and look into the little nooks and crannies!

Abu Nuhas with its wrecks is well worth the long trip, and the day boats only go there if conditions are perfect.

Sadly the diving in Hurghada is nowhere near what it used to be - when I first started working in Hurghada there was three dive boats operating, not the three hundred like now. Times have changed, and the reefs are showing a lot of wear and tear from being over-dived. Definently choose Emperor for your operator - they have been one of the top operators since they opened in Hurghada back in '92.

  7. thanks to all for the help

would recommend emperor divers they were spot on

the wrecks were good Tim like you say worth the journey , did the carnatic and ghianni D

    or something like that

also Gota Abu Ramada ( Aquarium) was really nice

i think you have to expect a lot of boats and divers in the redsea nowadays

i didn't expect hurghada to be so big and a giant building site never seen so many unfinished buildings

also saw about 7 Dolphins with a young one on one dive , they all stuck around a while really close and came back at the end of the dive also , made the trip really , 1st time for me

Good to hear that they are still going strong.

Just for info Carnatic is correct, the other one wouold have been Giannis D

Sadly I think that some of the good times out there have gone now

So nothing has changed then? :) It was like that in Hurghada years ago. It was hard to tell whether the town was half built of half demolished.

also saw about 7 Dolphins with a young one on one dive , they all stuck around a while really close and came back at the end of the dive also , made the trip really , 1st time for me

Probably at Torfa Fanus? (a quater moon shaped reef off the northern end of Hurghada). Dolphins would often come around while teaching an openwater course which tended to lower the attention span of students dramatically.

  9. Shaab Iris was the name of the reef where we saw the dolphins

  10. Shaab Iris was the name of the reef where we saw the dolphins

Never heard of that one, but most reefs had two or three different names depending on which dive centre you were working at (multiple names for the same reef could be annoying at times).
