  1. hi

im new to underwater videography ,, im planning to buy the sony hdr-hc7 ,, and I don't have much budget to get expensive housing... i found Equinox HC7 Pro housing for hdr-hc7 ,, it costs 1000$, i wanted to ask the pro`s about there opinion about it ,, is it good to start with, or is it bad ,, and if you have any other ideas you can help me with it,,, my budget can goes to 1500$ to the housing.,...

    thanx alot for your concerns

The Equinox housing is a fully manual controlled housing with am acrylic dome port. I've only used it once and that was with a HVX200, which is a BIG housing. It's a PVC construction. I think it's better if you decide what features you like in a housing and then check out the housing that fits the list you have. That is usually the best way to decide on a housing. You can do your research in this forum as well as on the internet as to what features best suit your needs. There is also Ikelite which is in that price range, I think.

Other options under $1500 would be the Ocean Images HC7 housing - another poly housing - and the TopDawg II($899). The back of the TopDawg somewhat obscures the viewfinder though. Aquavideo might be another mechanical option. I think they have an HC7 housing.

We make housings for both. Either one would be $1399

    including wide angle lens.

I don't have a brochure sheet for those yet but they

would be essentially the same as the one for the HC3.

I will be making housings for both of those cameras in

the next month so if you order by August 30 you can

take $100 off for a price of $1299.00

None of the housings within your budget have electronic controls. Ikelite, Aquavideo and Equinox are all manual control housings.

If I were you, I'd choose a housing based on what is important to you. I'm not sure if any of the housing manufacturers have representatives in Dubai so I guess seeing the housings is out of the question.

Bulk, access to certain functions and optics are all things to think about. Also consider aftersales service in case of repair. I think all of your housing choices originate from the US which means if anything goes wrong and there's no local shop, you have to ship it back to the US. Which can sometimes cost as much as the housing round trip.

    Good luck in your choice.

  12. hi drew

we have ikelite dealer in dubai,,, and i called them now,, if i want the housing,, they get it from US and they have repair and 1 year warranty............
