Is this a juvenile banded coral shrimp?

  1. When I took this photo I assumed it was a juvenile banded coral shrimp. This was because there were two adults on a large barrel sponge, and three of these small shrimp.

I haven't been able to confirm my ID though ... can somebody help?

  2. It took me more time to figure out what a "banded coral shrimp" is than to recognize your little guy. :) He's not a juvenile, he's a cleaner shrimp known as Urocaridella sp B in the Japanese guidebooks. It's often incorrectly called Urocaridella antonbruuni.

  3. Thanks Leslie :P

Sorry if I made it confusing :(

Banded Coral Shrimp = Stenopus hispidus in my ol' references

for two species it was very cosy behaviour :D

  4. Well you know me....Ms. Scientific Name snob..... ;D

  5. :P:D:(
  6. I think Leslie is listed under the scientific books as "Creatura regina"!

  7. :P If I was under all my scientific books thye'd have to list me as "Creatura flattus"!

You all might enjoy this article about discovering and naming a new family. The grad students among you can especially relate to the reference to the dreaded SCADS disease.
