Very happy with it but it does not have a pop up red filter. I have to screw on the red filter on the camera inside the housing and then its there for the rest of the dive....
Is there extern red filters for Amphibico housings? There is a slot on the very front of the housing where one might put a filter?
Glad for any help or ideas
Cheers
Roger
Hi Roger,
The simple answer is YES
Amphibico advertise a filter for that slot on their website. It is made by UR Pro filters, so it might be cheaper from them direct.
I had one on my MV1 (Optura) housing. It works well, protects the port, and can be removed easily u/w. The refractive index is similar to water, so that small scratches on the filter do not show on the film. I attached mine with an elastic band so that I could keep it out of the way when filming without.
Roger - one thing to think of - it's possible that if you take the screw on filter off the camera - that you will have vignetting when using the wide angle port (not on the standard port though) - You should be able to white balance with the filter on very simply making it a non-issue - I had the PD170 for years that way and never had any issues with the screw on. Perfect wb at the surface in blue water and near perfect wb at 150ft(tropical water).
I did use the 3x4 ur pro slate as well - but only when shooting macro with the standard port on - and a diopter screwed on to the camera in place of the red filter.
Just something to consider. Not sure of the placement of the camera with the VX2000 - but you may have vignetting if you take off the cc filter.
Bryce, the screw-on filter works in places with visibility like Hawaii... the waters in the Gulf of Siam is not as clear sometimes. The VX2k may have the best lowlight ability of any camera since 2000 but 2 stops of light means quite a bit of gain.
Roger, depending on your lens, the slate is probably your best choice for flexibility, especially since you are a rebreather diver and may want to go deeper where light is most precious.
I may come out in Dec for an Inspiration get use to the darn thing again dive on Chumporn if the bulls are still there.
