Interesting shot! Great colors! Can you identify the species for me?

If I read my book correctly it is a Simnia; a type of cowrie. I've got 60 more pics of it.

Nice find David!

Thanks. Went on a 3/4 day dive on the Specter out of Ventura Ca. Swell was coming in so I asked the Captian, Ted if he could put me on a spot where I could get out of the swell on a deeper reef. First 2 dives he anchored the boat so you could go in shallow where the swell had wiped out the vis or you could go out forward of the boat to a deep reef. Both off Anacapa Isd. The first was Sunken Island and the second was just a shallow reef no more than 4 or 5 ft off the sand. Still it was one on the more beautiful reeds that I have seen off of the Ca Channel Islands. There was a profusion of Sea Fans and a number of these Simnia around them. Very nice.
This Kelp Fish was there also.

Did ya have the Tri-tip? Mmmmm.... my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

3/4 day trips on the Specter always serve Barbecue chicken. The lunch is quite good.

If you get on a day boat you HAVE TO try the Tri-Tip. It is spectacular! Hopefully see ya on their some time.
