Does anyone have any experience on the avg. time Ikelite (or other manufacturers) takes to get a housing to market after a camera becomes available. I have pre-ordered a 40D (which Amazon claims will be available 9/20) and will be leaving for a trip two months after that on the N Sulawesi Aggressor (11/16) and am considering upgrading my 20D setup.
Thanks!

It seems usually Ikelite has the quickest turnaround (compared to some others). The Nikon D40 housing came out fairly quickly. Seems it was available per digideep January 12, 2007 - the camera was announced mid November of 2006 and available December and some others such as the Xti were also in the 2.5 - 3 month range, some have been a bit quicker. It will be close
As Drew said, Ikelite will almost certianly be the first to have a 40D housing available. But 2 months is pushing it. To have a chance, I would contact an Ikelite Dealer and get my name on the list immediately.
But I would not sell the 20D and 20D housing untill you have the 40D housing in your hands.

Thanks guys...I figured that I would be cutting it close. I had the trip planned prior to the 40D announcement and have been wanting to upgradenow that I read more about the camera. I pulled up some images of the 30D and 40D and the two look almost identical from the front. Hopefully, minimal changes will be necessary for the 40D housing.
Definitely not dumping the 20D until I've got something else.

The rear though had changes, the larger LCD moved the buttons from the left of the LCD to beneath the LCD. Do not know how much extra work that entails from the housing designer side of things though.
Good idea on keeping the 20D though in the interim

Im worried about the AF-ON button. I hope its controlled by the thumb-controlled rotating arm, instead of a push down controller. That button is the AF button when live view is used. (via custom function setting) I think i will be using it quite a bit. =)
Thought I'd jump in here. I am convinced after reading all the info that the 40D is going to be a super camera for me. I got mine today and what a machine! It feels like a real solid tool. I was in love before I put the batteries in. (Don't say it) I've talked to Aquatica and they just recieved their camera this week and have started the design effort. No promises yet on production dates. Sea & Sea is showing a Jan date on digideep for what that's worth. Hugyfot is showing a housing in development. Bottom line is we have a little time to save our pennies. I don't think this will be a simple mod to an existing housing. That big 3 in. screen could cause some real problems. I hope I'm wrong but I think I'll be doing good to have Santa bring my shiny new 40D housing.
