keep your fingers crossed for Belize

  1.

I am leaving for Belize the end of the month.

There is, as we speak, a catagory 5 hurricane beating a DIRECT path for that little country. It is due to hit around Wednesday. I am keeping my fingers crossed for two things.

A- I hope there is minimal damage due to the poor nature of the area.

B- I, selfishly, hope that my trip will still be able to go. I hope there will still be boats on the waters surface (not below it), and that the reefs will still be intact.

Years ago I won a trip for two to dive and stay in Cozumel. It was hurricaned out two years in a row. I finally gave up on it.

Belize, you are in my prayers!!! Good Luck!!

  2. It all depends on where you are going to in Belize. The north of the country looks like it will be spared any major damage.

During today we have been monitoring Felix and it seems likely that it will make landfall near the Nicaragua/Honduras border which will weaken it before remerging into the Gulf on Honduras and on to Belize. If this happens Belize will experience a lower strength storm than was previously anticipated. The projected landfall of Felix in Belize is somewhere south of Dangriga (where I live  ).

Whatever happens it is likely that Felix will produce heavy rainfall for most of Central America.

I'll keep you posted but I am much more relaxed as to our fate than I was 24hrs ago.

  3. Just to update this thread, Belize was spared the wrath of Felix. The storm moved in a westerly direction for most the last 24hrs and made landfall at 6am this morning (4/9) near the Nicuragua/Honduras border. It looks like all we will get is some rain, as if we need it right now

We should spare a thought for the people living in the area Felix passed over this morning because it was a Cat 5 storm with 165mph winds when it went ashore. The NOAA site is posting severe flood warnings for most of Honduras and some of Nicuragua and El Salvador.
