  1. Hi there,

does anyone know if the Sea and sea ttl converter and inon z-240 strobes work together to give reliable ttl lighting?

i can't seem to find any info on this online and sea doesn't recommend it, surprise surprise, inon says it will work but I would like to see if anyone is actually doing this, straight from the horses mouth sort of thing,

    many thanks in advance

    Jez

plus would love to hear from anyone who has had any problems with sea and sea conveter, i have heard that there may be some melting issues, doesn't bode well.

I have dual Z240's, Sea and Sea II ttl converter, Seacam housing and Nikon D2X. It worked just great on over 30 dives. No corrosion, exellent ttl. Alot depends on your housing and camera combination, however. There have been several threads on this issue this year. Check the archives. Some housings without anode grounding have had corrosion problems.

  3. ok, that's great, thanks alot, at least i know it works. i have put my ttl converter purchase on hold until i can find out a little more about the corrossion issues etc so anyone else out there that has had problems or uses this setup with or without problems i would love to hear from you,

    thanks in advance

  4. I'm using the converter with dual Z240's and a Nexus housed D200. I'm yet to take it in the sea but testing in the pool, the converter has been spot on. It is quite a large beast, or larger than I expected, so you do have to find somewhere to mount it but it does mean, for me at least, that I have workable cable and optical TTL which is a nice option & offers backup. As for the corrosion issues, you will have to isolate the camera ground from the housing otherwise electrolysis will occur (the converter battery housing is held at 3v unfortunately). I've acheived this by using a nylon bolt and insulating the camera mount plate. I am concerned over a report I've read that one converter battery compartment corroded up after many dives shooting on a Sea & Sea housing so will be extra careful in making sure the battery compartment thread is lubed and regularly checked. The only other point to note is that you can't shoot rear curtain sync with the converter which is a shame.

All in all the combination works fine for me and hope it will continue to do so.

Hope that helps - good luck,

    Andy

Yes, I have used this combination successfully. I set it up again on my last trip and the strobes wouldn't fire, so I went manual. I'm sending it back to be tested.

  6. that's worrying, seems to be a lot of success stories culminating in a failure somwhere along the line, is it possible if you could post or mail me the result of your "testing" please ,

thanks for your input, i am getting the general picture but would still like to hear more from others if anyone has the same rig, consider it a help manual for others in the future

    cheers

    Hi Jez,

I have used mine reliably for the better part of 6 months. By isolating the ground all electrlysis problems were solved. The TTL has worked flawlessly.

Now there is a new version on the market. I think this one has solved the problem with elektrolysis. Time will tell. I have one on order as mine was lost in luggage caos.

    I'll keep you posted!

  8. Thanks everyone, the end result seems to be the ttl works with inon z-240s but may corrode your housing and then commit suicide unless you insulate it somehow or wait for the new ttl converter that may or may not solve this problem. not sure how i feel about all this now. will hang fire on the converter for now and just get the strobes. judging by some of the posts the manual may take 6 months or so to translate ..and that's the english version (japinglish). if anyone gets their hands on the new ttl converter, i am guessing it the ttl 3, and tries it i would love to know how it goes, corrosion wise and compatibility wise,

good luck with your shooting, i am getting a 10-17 fisheye in few weeks, pretty excited about trying that one out.

    cheers

  9. Been using a S&S Canon TTL converter with 2x Inon Z-240's and a S&S 350D housing for over a year without any problems. The TTL is pretty spot on with macro shots and even with some close WA shots.

Which housing are you planning to use it with?

I have the canon 10d and housing so should be ok i think,

i am waiting to hear from sea and sea about any issues, they are very good at letting me know about any problems with compatibility

i am starting to change my mind about getting the ttl converter but i want to know about the new one, why is there a new one and what has changed,

thanks for letting me know how it's going for you, good to hear from someone who using canon,

    regards

  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they came out with a new version of the Canon TTL converter. I think the problem has been largely on the Nikon side where they now have 3 versions!
