Clarity on S2 TTL situation

1 posts
  1. Hi all,

i recently had one hell of a time trying to figure out the right strobe leads etc to connect a strobe (with TTL) to my Fuji S2. I dont want to name any of the people involved that i tried to get an answer out of but incase anyone else suffers the same confusion i can now confirm the following

    1. The Fuji S2 will operate in standard TTL mode. Therefore you can consider it like you would a standard TTL film camera that is compatible with any standard TTL strobes

    2. No fancy doobry flash conversion circuitry is needed to enable pre-flash technology on pre-flash capable strobes.

    3. Subsequent Fuji cameras S3-S5 moved to using the dTTL that most manufacturers now seem to be adopting in one way or another.

So this means if you have a fuji S2 you can take advantage of all your film camera strobes (if you are converting to digital) and retain full TTL capability.

The reason i post this is because a number of suppliers gave me a bum steer and had almost convinced me that i needed a Manual strobe lead and that if i needed TTL capability i would need a digital spec strobe and suitably modified flash circuitry. This is WRONG for the Fuji S2!!! The S2 may be unique in that it offers this functionality whilst there are a flood of other DSLR's on the market that dont - perhaps this is why some dealers have lost sight of the fact that the S2 is different butin a good way!

Its just a pity Fuji didnt win the battle with the TTL specs

Hope this helps someone else out in the future

    Cheers :)
