Having read the question on the Sigma 28-70 lens, I was wondering if anyone has tryed the Sigma 28-105 lens underwater with any results? I am looking for an all around "seek" lens for unexplored dive sites.

Stuart Sy is very fond of that lens for cropped sensor cameras. I believe he uses the Canon 28-105 - don't know if the Sigma is different.
Cheers
James
PS, the D70 is a better choice for underwater photography because of it's electronic shutter which can sync with underwater strobes at very high speed.

Hi,
James is correct, I love using the 28-105 on a cropped sensor camera. I use the Canon EF28-105 f3.5-4.5 version (there's a 3.5-5.6 version as well) with a Subal 90mm Flat Port. The lens is fast focussing and with an added Woody's diopter does very well as a quickie macro...but don't expect to get a pygmy seahorse with this combo. Stopped down, the lens gives very sharp images and is a great all around hunting lens.
However, now that I'm using a 5D underwater, I will have to use the 28-105 behind a dome port. You just need to make sure you can find a zoom gear for your particular housing.
