Just returned from Roatan...

  1. Just returned from Roatan and it took me a day to realize its already time to go back! Photos were taken with my Olympus 4040 with PT-010 and single YS-90DX.

    - Enjoy!

  2. Great shark photo. In 2 weeks all I saw of sharks was a nurse shark.

    Where did you stay??

  3. This was our first visit and we stayed at Anthony's Key for a week. I would highly recommend them to anybody. The service was superb, the people were friendly, and the dives were wonderful. B)

  4. Good shots.

I like the curves of the shark, giving the image a feeling of motion. Also, the deep blue background is impressive. It feels a little boxed in, though. Is this cropped.

The space in front of the turtle is another good composition for an action shot.

The green moray is a little odd on the lighting, in my opinion. The two tone affect kinda makes it look like its coming out of a second liquid surface.

The dolphin looks a little muted, but maybe that was your preference.

The grouper has a "mounted on the wall" look (very straight and complete lateral view), but the lighting is good.

My favorite is the last shot, good space and positioning of the lone diver.

  5. Thanks for the Critique grasshopper! Sometimes I'll look at a photo and have no idea why its not quite right. The ability to identify why is important. I agree on the "boxed in"-ness of the shark. The image is cropped a little on the right. There was some exhaust bubbles on the right side of the pic that I didnt want to spend hours touching up. I think I will though to see how it looks.

Here is another shot of the moray. Still, not right. I think the pose is not right and he is smack in the middle of the frame. The sand made it hard to get the contrast that I wanted without blowing out the entire bottom of the picture. Should have got down and shot up.

I agree on the wreck photo. It has a nice feel and the rule of thirds worked great. My wife also makes a great model .

I find this one kind of cool in a "man reaching out to fish" way:

  6. I hope I didn't sound too critical. Just some thoughts meant to be constructive. I will be very happy if my pics are 1/2 as good, when I go to Bonaire, next month.

  7. Rob, they started a shark feed dive in Roatan. I saw no sharks during my week and chose not to participate in the shark feed. My last two trips being only sharks and dolphins. I am assuming that is why the one photo has the chainmail suit on? Unless those grouper have gone mutant.

  8. hahahah! Yeah, they definately havn't gone mutant (yet). This was during the shark dive at Kara Kara and of course the groupers wanted a piece of the action. The shark handler had chainmail gloves. I saw no sharks on any other dives, but my buddies on another boat saw two grey reef sharks on Double D Wall. Oh yeah, and a nurse shark if that counts? Next time I want to hop to Utila to have my fill in whale shark action for a few days.

    P.S. - Critique is truely appreciated. B)
