Laser framing aid...???

  1. I'm thinking out loud here and would be grateful for some feedback.

On occasions I (like most of you I guess) find myself framing blind, i.e. unable to get my head behind the LCD or the ambient light obscures the LCD. So I am looking for a solution which 'may' be this...

I have a laser sight which will fit inside an Ikelite G9 housing. I could also retro fit an external on/off button to the housing if I wish. I know that using a wide angle or dome port will obscure the laser but hey, framing a w/a shot shouldn't be that difficult. No, I'm thinking more about the close focus shots without supplimentary lenses.

I do appreciate the potential risks to fellow divers and subjects when using lasers. The laser I propose to try is considered 'eye safe' (5 mW output) however I can easily attentuate the beam by slipping disks of exposed 35mm film inside the unit (as we used to do when using these with night vision). A downside may be an intense red dot in the photo, but I'm sure an appropriately attenuated beam and photoshop will take care of that.

    So, what do you think?

  2. Try adding a focus light instead. Not a big fan of removing red dots on PS.
