Fuji E900? Nikon Coolpix 5100? Canon A570?

  1. Help!

I'm struggling with the next step up. I've been using a Canon SD800IS in the Canon housing (wp-dc9) and I'm ready to take the next step, but not ready for the full dSLR rig yet. I'm looking for a compact digital that I can add macro/wide angle lenses (like the Inon) and maybe an external strobe. A couple places have recommended the Fuji E900 and since it's "last year's model", they're pretty cheap ($175 US) and there's an Ikelite housing for under $300 US. On the other hand, the Nikon Coolpix 5100 is newer, seems like alot more camera and the Fantasea housing for it has an available 6x macro that screws right on (46mm), so no extra mounting brackets. And finally, the Canon is inexpensive, has the adaptor for the Inon bayonet style mounting (which I'm told is superior system to screw on wet lenses), but which I'm not sure is much of a step up, camera-wise. And once I'm done with this quandary, it's on to strobes (Inon D2000?). Any guidance, o gurus, is greatly appreciated!

  2. hey phil,

imho, getting another P&S will not be a step up. your photos will look the same. getting a strobe would be a step up (INON 2000). getting the add-on lenses would be a step-up, after you have a strobe.

you can already get add-on lenses for your camera, here is the link:

  3. Thanks Scott! Getting the lens and strobe with what I have would definately give me more to play with. I could always transfer the strobe set up to the next camera when the time comes...
