October 2007 - new dslr housings

8 posts
  1. Late October and early November always seem to me to be a time that new underwater housings are either launched or announced. I guess a lot of housing manufactures like to have something new to show off at events like the Antibes Festival and DEMA. With new cameras like the Canon 1D/1DS Mk3, Nikon D300, Olympus E3 and Nikon D3 all likely to recieve attention, plus others that have been around slightly longer like the Canon 40D and Nikon D40 - for which housings are actually coming on sale.

So I thought it might be a nice idea to start a thread where we can all post everything from official announcements of ready to buy housings:

To kick things off, I see on Divephotoguide that the Aquatica housing for the Nikon D40x is now on sale:

also Digideep has details of a forthcoming Hugyfot housing for the Nikon D300:

and here on Wetpixel a few weeks ago we had pictures of the forthcoming Sea & Sea housing for the Nikon D300:

Anyway, I am sure this is just scratching the surface. So if you have seen photos of any more please post them below.

  2. I'll be at PhotoPlus Expo the today, tomorrow and Saturday, so I'm sure there'll be some goodies on display. If I see anything of interest, I'll post it here with snapshots.

Most camera manufacturers make their big announcements at big shows like Photokina, PMA, and increasingly, CES (Consumer Electronics Show), which is one big zoo in Las Vegas; and then, from what it appears, housing manufacturersbusily go to work with about a 6 month engineering/prototyping/testing cycle.

  3. I came across a comment from a tester that the EOS1DSMkIII has a slightly different prism housing than the EOS1DMkIII so I reckon housing manufacturers may well await the DSMkIII's actual arrival before any announcements!

  4. I have a hook in at Hugy regarding the D300 housing that at least should have been on display in Birmingham. Do not know if that was indeed the case?

Will post details when those are released.

  5. There were Hugy's on display in Birmingham. I saw them while passing, but didn't look close enough to see if any were the D300! Doh.

  6. We will have a Canon 40D housing (pre production) for the DEMA show in a two weeks, I'll try and get some photos early next week, so the resident Pixelian Canonnites can get glimpse.

    OK,

I got a flyer on Friday from Hugy on the HFN-D300. Still just the CAD drawings but boy, does it look pretty. :)

    Availability week 51 @ EUR2670.

  8. PhotoPlus Expo in Manhattan was One Big Bust... I did not see one single piece of underwater gear. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Unless you're into inkjet printing, this huge show had almost nothing new. :)
