Nikon DX 12-24 mm lens with +4 diopter, final ratio?

  1. What happens to the maximum ratio of a lens in a dome port with a +4 diopter? For example the Nikon lens’s minimum focus distance is 11.8†(30 cm) with a max. ratio of 1:8.3.

  2. If the dioptre and dome are perfectly matched. Nothing.

However most domes require theoretically weaker dioptres than the +4. To make a sweeping generalisation, most 8 inch domes theoretically require +2 (although this is not always what gives the best performance).

Therefore a +4 will increase the maximum magnification ratio a little. To pluck a number out of the air - maybe to 1:7??

Thanks Dr. M. I am sure your plucks are better than my plucks.
