  1. Just wondering if anyone out there who shoots a 20D underwater can help me out on setting my autofocus custom settings so i am able to toggle between autofocus points using the dial, but still be able to shoot in full manual mode. The problem is, i can adjsut the AF point using the dial, but then im unable to adjust the shutter speed in manul mode. Is there any way to use this feature? I can't seem to find the right setting on my camera. usually i use the directional pad button when shooting topside, but that is th eonly buttom I canot utilize when in the housing. Thanks

  2. Hi Dan,

I can't think of a work-around for what you want to do, but I prefer to keep the AF on the center spot and change the AF control from the shutter button to the star button on the rear. This is done in the menu.

With this, I can center the subject I want to focus and get a lock with the star button, then frame. Also I use manual focus quite a bit.

Hmm, I didnt know that worked. I thogutht he star button only locked the exposure. I will have to look through the settings, but that sound sliek it would work fine for me. Thanks a lot.

  4. Yep star button for focus lock. I can't remember the feature but it is there.

  5. Pacislander,

As Steve B states, all the Canon dSLR cameras allow "one touch" change via the "set" button from multi-point AF to center point. Hit your * button first, then set to toggle between the two......

To move the AF point manually using your rear comand dial, tap the "checkerboard" control (next to the * button) and voila' your rear command dial scrolls around from multi-point to individual points. You can play with it and find the one point where it will also go from multi-point to the center, and then around the whole screen to individual points.

Using the * button to start AF (as soon as you release it, it is locked wherever your AF locked in on) is enabled through one of the Menu's custom choices. It's in the manual.......Useful for super close macro, where you lock in on one point, then move your body in and out until you see the image in focus. Then pull the trigger!

Another use of the * button AF lock is for over / under shots allowing you to lock focus at maybe 12", and simply pull the trigger relying on depth of field to get sharp pics......(Like below)

Many Canon shooters are in love with using the * button for all AF and then being able to push the shutter release at any time.

    YMMV.......

    Hope this helps!
