Sea&Sea YS 250 Pro with a compact like DX-1G?

6 posts
  1. Hello

    1. has anyone used the new strobe YS 250 Pro with a compact cam? I am thinking of using it with the new & small Sea&Sea DX-1G but I am not sure about the handling of such a massive strobe UW (with some negative buoyancy on top)... e.g. would it still be possible to take pictures holding the system with 1 hand?

    2. would the YS 250 Pro offer much advantage vs. the more usual set-up with YS-110, if I plan to upgrade to a DSLR system (Canon 40D) later on?

    Many thanks for your thoughts!

  2. Hi pschemo,

a german equipment dealer told me that the YS-250 Pro isnt working fine with the dx-1g. I think that the YS-110 is a better choice for the DX-1G. For you plannings ... I think you can use both strobes but the YS-250 is more powerful. Maybe it is also a choice for you to buy 2 YS-110 ...

    Greetings,

    Adrian

  3. Thanks for all the advice.

I will go for the YS-110 on Stay7 Arm and enjoy the lightweight travel for a while :D I also heard the DS-TTL works quite well with the DX-1G, which is something the big YS-250 strobe doesn't have.

Later, as I move to DSLR with fish-eye lens, I will move to 2x YS-110 set-up.

Cheers & have a great weekend

  4. The advice I have obtained from a number of sources has indicated that the YS250 and DX-1G is not a great set up :P if you want to make use of the cameras TTL.

(it's not compliant and the YS250 can only be used in manual mode -which sort of defeats the point if you want TTL synch.- but in many cases this is peoples personal preference) :D

DS TTL is much improved on the DX-1G, and therefore I would personally err towards YS110 DS TTL

  5. Later, as I move to DSLR with fish-eye lens, I will move to 2x YS-110 set-up.

Sounds great. This is the setup I want to buy in the future. Next year I wll sell both Subtronics and

    buy the two YS-110 :-)

    Greetings,

    Adrian

  6. I have a DX-1G with a single YS-250Pro, but I have not yet used it underwater. The only way it connects is with an optical sync cord. How does the YS-110 work differently? The sales person at the dive shop I was at was talking to the Sea and Sea rep via cell phone when I was looking at this setup. The rep was quoted as saying he has a DX-1G with two YS-250Pro strobes and it works great. I'm hoping I didn't just make a mistake when I might have had better results with two YS-110's instead.
