Giant Squid footage on History Channel

  1. Howsit everyone,

History Channel is finaly going to air a show that I worked on with my partner at Sea Wolves Ulimited. They say its the largest squid ever filmed. I was one of the two divers on the mission and have not seen the finished show yet or how they came up with the estimates of size. I have been waiting to see it thought. I did get a chance to review the footage at the location and I can say its the biggest squid that I have ever seen.

Look for the video about the Giant Squid. All footage was shot with Sony Z1-U cameras with Gates housings using Green force lights and Night Rider lights also.

You can see the camera still hooked to the squid that deployed it down deep for us. This shot was taken by me when I had to recover the squid and camera. The squid got agitated and went for the camera man a couple of times.

It was an interesting trip to say the least.

Let me know what you guys think of the show.

  2. Interesting. So the video claims that it got footage of a 108' giant squid at 1000'? That's an impressive claim.

    I agree Eric,

Like I said, our team was hired to do the dive mission and we just followed orders. The editing, and overall production was done by another production company. We performed the dive missions and filmed it. I got a chance to see some of the footage and I can say that it is the biggest squid I have ever seen.

    108ft? :D

Im gonna have to see the show to see how they came up with that measurement.

  4. Still, it's very cool. I wish there was more footage in the piece.

I'd *love* to come dive with you guys sometime. I've always wanted to see a Humboldt squid!

cmon Eric, you know you have an open invitaiton. I wanted to get something together with you and some Wetpixel members next year. This year is over, the squid are getting hard to find this month.

It would be awesome to do a Wetppixel trip!

Let me know what you think of the show, I know I got a bad 02 hit from my rebreather and it made me throw up once I got back in the boat, After I regained my composure I turned around to find an HD camera stuck in my face. :guiness:

I hope I dont look like too much of a wuss......

    ;)
