I just got back from a dive trip to the Philippines. The macro life was stunningly diverse and I have enough good images to keep me busy editing for months. There was also ample opportunity for wide angle at Apo Island. I thought I would share these two of schooling Jacks at Mamsa Point. Appropriately enough "Mamsa" is the local word for Jackfish. There is something about schooling fish that, despite the first rule of diving, takes my breath away. As usual click on the image or more details.
and schools are tough to shoot as well due to the strobes hitting 1 or 2 fish just wrong. You did a great job...and a heck of a school. Awesome. I'll be heading to the Philippenes in May. Apo Island will be one of the stops....I'd love to see these guys in person!

Apo is a must dive. We had two dive days there for a total of 6 dives. I did all of them in wide angle. There is some macro, but the corals and schooling fish are what make the dive. The dive operator said that they see the Jacks at this site around 80% of the time, more when there is a strong current. We had a light current so we were lucky to seem them. The following dive group missed them altogether.
I set the strobes to maximum extension and angled outwards. I don't know how much strobe return I got. The contrast was pretty low and I had to crank the contrast a lot.
Looks like a great experience.

Fantastic Steve! You really captured what it must be like to dive with all those jacks.
