Gates HC7 Housing w/ Fathom WP25 Port

  1. This is a Gates HC7 underwater housing & Fathom WP25 wide angle port combination for the Sony HDR-HC7 HDV video camera. Below is the link to Gates website for a full description.

I recently purchased this underwater housing for a short documentary. Now that the filming is finished, I, unfortunately, do not have a need for it anymore. I wish I did, as it is a great piece of equipment and takes beautiful footage with the Sony HC7.

In addition to the housing itself and the Fathom port, the following are included:

    • Housing comes with the Gates factory installed White Balance Control Option

This the knob at the rear of the housing used to control white balance or a number of other options via the Sony’s touch sensitive LCD screen.

    • Comes with many spare parts. These include all the o-rings for the housing and to rebuild the control knobs, spare latch, spare red filter and other miscellaneous spare parts. Some of them twice, as some came with the housing and then again when I purchased the additional spare parts kit.

As you may know, Gates Housings are built incredibly well, almost bullet-proof, so I never had the need to replace anything.

    • There is a flexible accessory arm to hold a white balance card. It does not include the white balance card itself.

    • A stainless steel tripod mount to uses the housing underwater with a tripod. This is something I built myself and works quite well. It basically will work with most tripods with a quick-release mount.

And of course the most important is the condition. While using this housing, I pampered it like a baby to ensuring that it remains in great condition. Everything is in excellent condition. You would not be disappointed.

I am asking $2,400 to sell it quickly. I have about $3,200 invested into it. I hope it finds a new owner soon, as it is a shame to see it not being used.

Also, if interested, I have the Sony HDR-HC7 video camera that I used with the housing. One could purchase together, if they wanted.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. I will be happy to answer them or send more photos if you like.

I am located in Miami, FL

    Cheers,

    Jonah

  2. Jonah,

Nice setup  as the owner of the same housing & port, I'd agree it's a great little HDV setupl!

By any chance, would you have a pic of that custom made tripod mount? I've been looking to do something similiar.

  3. It is a rather straightforward setup. Started with a 3"x3" 1/4" plate of stainless steel and then drilled out four holes that align with the bottom of the Gates handle. Before bolting this plate to the housing, attach a quick release tripod mount to the plate as in the photo. You will have to replace the bolt in the tripod mount so that it reaches through the plate. With the stainless steel plate and quick release tripod mount attached to the housing, you can quickly remove/attach the housing with tripod while underwater.

Probably not as pretty as Gates' version, but works well.

    Hope this helps.

  4. As this housing has not sold and is begging to be returned to the water, I am lowering the price to $1,950 for the entire package. This represents about $1,250 less than what I just recently paid.

    My Black Friday Sale :)

  5. thanks Jonah for the posting the adapter...

Best of luck with the sale. At that price, that's a steal!

  6. Jonah,

Just sent this URL to a friend in Australia who may be very interested.

  7. Hi Jonah

I'm interested in the housing - and the camera but I already have a JVC Everio I'll need to sell first. i'll let you know how I go with selling it

In the mean time, please let me know aht you know about PAL / NTSC for the camera as I'm in Australia and we use PAL. What frame rates does the camera have, my JVC has a variable rate setting and 25 fixed

    Kind regards

    Matt
