Another G9 Question!

  1. Hi,

    i'm trying to decide on a new camera for use both underwater and on land and I really like the look of the G9, but a big requirement for me is being able to add a wide angle lens onto my underwater set up. Theres the option of getting the Ikelite housing and the short port for that, but that's over twice the price of the Canon housing. Looking around this forum I noticed someone put a link up to one of these:

    does anyone have any experience using them? They look like a great idea, but I'm worried about how much you'd have to zoom with a wide angle lens to avoid vignetting, will it reduce the advantage of having the wide angle lens much?

    Am I better off giving in and getting the Ikelite housing. or should I consider another camera?

    Thanks,

    Carly

  2. We tested a similar adapter and "zoom in a little" is a bit of an understatement... I'd only recommend that option if for adding macro lenses. If you want wa, the best way to do it is with the Ikelite housing.

  3. Thanks for your reply.

    Has anyone tried the G9 in an Ikelite housing with a wide angle lens? What effect does the short port have? Will there be any vignetting on the pictures with the short port and a wide angle lens?

    Thanks,

  4. Hi Carly,

    I just returned from the Maldives where i got a chance to use the Ikelite Housing with the short port and Ikelite wide angle lens, camera Canon G7. I must say it works really well. One has to zoom in just a notch, say 10 to 15% depending on the shot and the results are great. I will be posting the pics on flickr but am adding one here so that you get an idea. Given a choice and if the pockets are full...Ikelitehousing would be the better option overall :wacko:

    Cheers ,

  5. HI Carly

    If you wait just 7 / 10 days, I'll post here the really feedback about canon G7 (I think that is the same) with the short port and the INON UWL 100 lens.

    I've just bought it,and now I'm waiting...(bought on -line from germany ).

    byeeeee :wacko::):)

  6. Flick back through the G7 posts from the last couple of months, there's plenty of information about using the WA lens with shorter port on the Ike houseing. The G7/G9 is a great set up, and it's def worth investing the extra bit of cash for the better housing.
