Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 update supports EX1 and V1 finally

  1. The latest FCP 6.0.2 update brings support for the XDCAM HD files from the Sony PDW-EX1, albeit with a download of Sony's transfer program. Also needed is the SxS Pro Device Driver for Mac Book Pros to recognize the cards upon insertion. The EX1 files, called XDCAM EX, can only be edited on FCP 6.0.2. This is probably due to the MP4 wrapper, which requires a separate codec from normal XDCAM HD. This may prove crucial to the acceptability of XDCAM EX as it is not the same file as XDCAM HD.

Another more long awaited support is the ability to edit Sony's HVR-DR60 M2T files natively as well as the HVR-V1's 24P files directly instead of having to do a separate 3:2 pulldown via cinema tools. In fact, there are now presets for all the p-scan files for the HVR-V1 output. This is done through another unreleased plug-in from Sony.

  2. An update on the m2t support from Sony. So far, 1.3 years after the release of the HVR-DR60 and now the release of the MRC-1 flash recorder, Sony still has not released the FCP plug in for direct support of the .m2t files to be read natively without conversion.

They have however, released a utility to connect m2t files broken by the FAT32 4GB file limit. What it doesn't do is connect the cache from the old files due to the 0.5 second delay.

  3. FINALLY Sony has released the plug-in for FCP to convert the m2t files under Log and Transfer. It took them a year+ to release this plugin and it's a bit half-assed but nonethless it beats having to use another program to convert. You still cannot work with the files directly.
