D300 Arrived

  1. My camera store got 5 in, including mine. We took it out in the store, slapped a lens on it and played with it. The LCD is fantastic, but the biggest oohhs and ahhhs were the pictures at 1600 ISO with available light. Obviously I will need to look at them on a bigger monitor and print them out to judge the noise, but blown up on the screen, they looked very, very good.

  2. I'm turning green as I read this. It will be great to see some posts of higher ISO pics and bright highlight examples, like chrome and reflections on a car or something.

  3. :);):( , I know how you feel.
  4. I can't wait to get mine friday :)

I know it was adressed a while back with the D200 (my search was unsuccessful) but what would be a good all around zoom lens for land based travel?

    Thanks

The 18-200 is a pretty nifty all round lens. There are sharper lenses, but if you only want one lens to do most things, this will do it.

  6. B and H started accepting orders about 16 hours ago on the D300...

I have the 18-200 for my 200, but would like to get a sharper lens. Can you mention a couple of the zoom lens that you say are sharper?

    Thanks!

Nothing I know of with that range is sharper, but the 70-200 VR is an amazing lens, and the 17-55 is a great all around lens to walk around with if you do not need telephoto, also very sharp.

I second that. The 18-200 is a great "walk around lens"

like loftus said, you want sharp glass you gotta drop for the 17-55 and the 70-200. both are stellar.

(EDIT: i mean "eye-poppingly sharp" glass, all nikkors are sharp.....)

can't wait for my D300 to arrive (for topside only... unless jean hooks up a cheap housing mod). pulling my hair out seeing it "in stock" at B&H and not at my local shop i ordered from.

  10. Just an update for those interested - I've been told by my store they wont ship "internationally" (outside US) till the end of nov/begin dec. Not sure how wide ranging that is, probably doesn't apply for those close to japan.

Steve: I'm most interested in the new autofocus module in the D300 - have you shot any action with it yet? Do you have any pics to post, perhaps those at 1600 ISO? Cheers,

    Chris

  11. We got our D300 cameras in and I took one home for this weekend. Just messin' around on Thanksgiving taking some hi iso shots indoors with ambient light, the results were looking very good. I'll try to get some more pictures this weekend and post.

Jean, did you guys get one yet?

    Best regards,

    Jim

When referring to the 17-55, I assume you guys are referring to the DX 17-55. Yes?

    Thanks for the tips!
