I received my G9 today I have to buy a sd card. I'm going to mozambique next friday and want to take as much pictures as possible I'm thinking a 4 GB card , were I live I can easily buy this 3 models:
I want a fast card because the raw writing can be a litle slow , does the card really makes a big diference ? The transcend claims to have 150X wich is faster than the usual 133X.And does the diferent brands that diferent?
Thank you
Hi Lula,
I have a G9 and like you, I needed to upgrade my media. However the first thing I realised was that my card reader and photo viewer could only cope with 1 gb SD cards...
A firmware upgrade now allows my Epson P2000 to read 2 gb cards and a natty USB / SD flash drive bypasses my card reader nicely.
So I bought 2 gb Sandisk Extreme IIIs which have a capacity of 115 raw images - adding jpegs reduces this count by about 10. The write time for Raw images seems to be about 3-4 secs. They are as cheap as chips at mymemory.com
I had a similar question and bought both the sandisk ii 8gb and iii 4gb versions. In a completely non scientific test I was able to get 6 shots of raw + JPEG in ten seconds using continuous mode but only 5 with the ii. I then tried the single shot mode and could see a huge difference, but there is one. In the end size mattered more to me. I suppose if you wait a bit, the 8gb iii will be more available.
By the way, I'm in kona waiting to board the aggressor and I'll let you all know how the new gear works next week.
