I have the D200 Sea&Sea housing. I want to add to this setup the 105 VR Macro.
Currently I have the basic flat port ( Sea&Sea NX-90 Standard flat port #56101) I wonder if there is any extension I can buy that will give me to use this port with the 105VR? Without the need to buy new macro port?
Thanks

Gadi,
The SX Extension Ring (50261) should work.
Dan
I use the Extension Ring 40 with the NX Std Flat Port for the 105mm VR. works great.
Extension Ring 40 is also good for the 18-70mm and the 12-24mm and the big dome
Might be the only ext ring needed...
Take care,
John
I also use the SX extension with the NX Custom Macro port (the one with the manual focus knobs). Of course, the manual focus does not work, but otherwise it works fine.
Thanks for the all replays. Follow up question.
I spoke today with the store I bought from the housing before, and they said that for the 105 VR (new Lens) I don’t need extension ring when use with the Regular Flat port. He mention that the lens is the same size as the Nikon 60 MM Macro and there I only use the port.
I very much appreciate if someone that have the new 105VR and the Sea&Sea Flat port can try to see if they feet together in the D200 housing?
It will be great if I can save the 250$ on the extension ring. (just bought a new D300....).
Thanks
Gadi
That information isn't correct, you definitely need the sx extension ring.
There is a nub on the inside of the Standard Flat Port and Custom Flat Port that will push the lens off center if it isn't removed.
So, Ryan, I thought you could do a little DIY project on the NX Custom Flat Port, remove some of that little nub, and the 105 VR would fit without an extension ring. Is that also incorrect?
As far as I can see, the nub really doesn't have much of a purpose.
You'll need an extension. Using SX (best choice) requires removing the nub. Extension Ring 40 pushes the nub out far enough that the nub is in front of the lens, but leaves a couple centimeters of dead space in the port.
Hi
Got the SX Ext and i need to remove the nub (Extra plastic) in the port, any idea how it can be done safe? any tip here will help.
thanks
Gadi
Ok,
I took the tools out tonight :-) and come with this small project, the new 105 VR lens in the sea&sea flat port with the SX ext. as mention in the above thread, there is a small nub at the end of the port that don’t let the lens to be in the center, I had to remove it, I took one of my small circle card and insert to the lens as protection, and then just grind it very careful, then clean with air, and Walla, works like new.
You can see the picture in the link, of before, during, tools and after.
Does this mod allow use with Sea & Sea's Focus Gear for the 105VR as well? Sorry for the noob question...

No need to apologize, it's a very valid question.
The focus ring for the 105 VR doesn't fit the old custom macro port to the best of my knowledge. It is a pretty tight fit inside the port width-wise.
Thanks Craig for the reply. I wonder if it is the same with the NX Standard Port.
For all those using this mod without the focus gears....how would you deal if the AF hunts a lot? I have in my shopping cart the Fisheye HG20DX focus light which I assume will help loads. Also, perhaps using focus lock (on a similar distance object and then moving the camera rig in and out?
Would be nice if the 105VR could be used with the focus gear in the Standard NX flat port. I am almost convinced that this is all a scam by manufacturers to get us to buy (and carry) more gear! (Although i know this is probably untrue as cameras and lenses themselves have evolved).
