sea and sea DX-D100 and nikon D-100

Hi there all,

I'm new to this foroum and to the world of underwater photography,I have just bought a setup and was looking for some advise on how to reap the benifits of the kit.

I am going to eygpt in feb so want to know the main things i will need

At the moment i have.

1. sea and sea housing

2. Nikon D-100 camera.

3. 40 mm extension

4. NX compact dome

5. 18 -55mm dx lens.

A few questions answered for me would be a lot of help.

1. What lens is best to get?

2. What strobe is best to get?

3. how do i adjust for white balance?

4. What are the best set ups for the camera to dive in thr range of 15-30 metres?

Sorry if i sound a little dull in the questions but i am really stuck in what i need and dont really want to spend more money and not get very good photos.

Any help would be well appreciated.

Hi Darren,

I had that set-up for a while.

I think the thing that you can do to most improve your photos would be:

1st: get a strobe - any strobe. You can get a used Ikelite strobe on Ebay for <$150US A little more money and you can buy a used YS90 or YS110

2nd: You MUST get a +2 diopter if you wish to use that lens and port combination.

3rd: buy a Nikon or Sigma 60mm or 50mm macro lens. You can use it behind the dome port, but a flat port would be preferable.

4th: buy a Tokina 10-17mm Fisheye lens

Thanks for the help.wil try and get a strobe for a christmas present i hope,started dropping a few hints to the misses already.

A few poeple have said different lens for wide but not sure which one to get.

I have been told to get a few,nikon20mm,sigma 20mm,sigma 17mm.nikon 10.5mm,and the 10-17 which you have suggested.

Why do you suggest this lens,you have obivously used it before and thats the info i want ,thanks for your suggestions tho,it has been a great help.
