Inon Dual Strobe Tip

  1. Hi All,

For those with dual Inon strobes or those thinking of adding a second strobe a quick tip.

I use dual Inon Z240 strobes with an Ikelite housing, so naturally purchased a double sync cord from Ikelite. After a couple of dives with this double sync cord I found it sometimes in the way when looking thru the viewfinder. So I wondered if Inon make an optical sync cord, as the Inon strobes have a optical sensor, to slave one strobe to the other. They do (sorry can't remember the part number).

So now I use a single sync cord (cheaper and less bulk, plus cheaper and easier to carry a few backup cables) with the optical sync cord. It has worked flawlessly on the dozen dives I have made with it, and both cables are easy to keep out of the way.

The optical sync cord connects to the front of the primary strobe, requiring removal of the defuser. I haven't found this to be a problem, as have a defuser on the slave strobe, giving slightly softer light from this strobe.

This optical sync cord is cheap and a good option if adding a second strobe to your camera rig, or if you want to carry less gear when travelling.

    Regards

    Nigel

  2. With Z-240's I think using two optical sync cords are better that a slave cable, i.e optical D cables. If you need a little extra length (I did), try the optical D cable L. If anything it means you will only be using ONE type of cable which means carrying fewer spares...
