I don't know of any good books focused specifically on compacts - I looked for one a year ago for my wife.
For my money, Martin Edge's book is the best underwater photography book whatever you're shooting. He covers digital compacts in the new edition, as I recall, featuring pics from the Oly 5050, though not his focus. Maybe somebody should ask Mr. Edge to release a companion volume that excises all the dSLR stuff and simplifies things for the compact market. In fact, as a contributing author to the last book, maybe the illustrious Dr. Mustard could help update it.
Hmmmm...this smells of a new book by Dr. Mustard.

Honestly not! I am too lazy to write a book on underwater photography at the moment.
Someone asked me this question by email and I wasn't sure of the answer - so I re-posted the question here.

Alex, when you have the answer, please let us know!
But for my money and as a newbie compact user (having gone from a Pentax P&S, through a Sea and Sea DX 8000G and to a G9 in the space of a year), Martin's tome, Jack & Sue Drahful's ' Master Guide for Digital Underwater Photography and Michael Aw's two works have helped me immeasurably.
Not a book but a good read on P^S cameras as well as specific data to particular cameras.

I was just thinking that. Whoever writes the definitive P&S book needs to be able to write to a non-technical audience, exploit the limitations and strengths of a P&S, write about filters and available light photography, and write about shooting in a normal zoom range. Who do we know with that skill set? Face it Dr. Mustard, it is your destiny.
Sounds like a Mustard/Rowlands production to me...
... but I have suggested Martin Edge's third edition, with your chapter and Daniel Beecham's chapter, though it does need some background in photography, I think.

Thanks for the responses. I can (re)-assure you that I have no plans to write such a book. I just wanted to canvas opinion as my views tend to be biased towards the books I have contributed to.

Michael Aw's Essential Guide was a big help to me. While not specifically a P&S guide, the majority of it can be applied.
Just got Aw's Advanced Guide... last night, read the majority of it on a flight on the way home, and while a lot more dSLR based, still some very applicable stuff in there.
I seem to remember a secion on Dr Mustard in there too!
Let me suggest that someone who shoots P&S and is looking for a book is probably new to underwater photography. In this context, I don't think that somethong specific on P&S is needed, but better something sound introducing underwater photography concepts.
Thinking this way, I remember which were the books that gave me this concepts: Jim Church's Essential Guide to Composition and Bryan Skerry's Successful Underwater Photography.
