Sigma 20-40mm lens

  1. Has anyone used the sigma 20-40mm lens or the nikon.

I am looking for a new lens and like the look on this one because it has the slight zoom and it is wide angle.

I have searched the guides for sea and sea housings and it says for this lens i would need the 40mm extension and the fisheye dome.I only have the 40mm extension and the compact dome, would this lens work with my setup or would it hit the dome when extended.

Any help or advise would be appreciated before i go out and buy the lens,I will need one soon because i am going diving in eygpt in january.

    Cheers

    Darren

  2. Any help please.

  3. I can't really answer your question because I have never seen this lens or heard of anyone else using it.

The specs do not really entice me to use it. It may be fine, but the close focus of only 30cm and 1:4.6 magnification ratio would frustrate me a bit. It also looks a bit big and heavy for a lens you may not want to use that often. I would guess a 40mm port ring is the minimum you would need.

Mid range zooms do not excite a lot of underwater photographers although I like the idea a lot. I went for the new Sigma 18-50 F2.8 macro and have found it very useful on certain subjects. However they are not always easy to house and get an optimal configuration behind a dome port. I have used mine behind both a dome and a flat ports depending on the subject I'm after.

If you can I would recommend taking your housing in to a camera dealer and trying the combination out before commiting yourself. I'd be interested to hear if you get it and can report back.

I am thinking again about a mid range zoom but I would now prefer a slightly longer zoom range to work behind a flat port. However, I'm not sure the ideal zoom that meets my needs exists yet.

  4. Cheers for the reply.

What about the sigma 10-20mm,I have heard of a lot of poeple using this lens but cannot find the correct focus gear to use from sea and sea.

  5. Probably a lot more versatile if you're looking to go wide is the Tokina 10-17. There are a number of threads on this lens if you search this site.

  6. Cheers.

what zoom gear would i need to fit in a sea and sea housing.DX-D100.

It does'nt show that lens in the sea and sea chart.
