  1. Here a Basslet Swarm I photographed last November:

    Shot as JPEG (didn't know Wetpixel back then ;-) ) With a S40 housed in a WP-DC 300 w/o external Flash

  2. I like the sense of motion and the amount of life in the image. the colour is perfect.

My nit is I dont seem to be able to focus on anything. Maybe its just my preference, but I still believe that even in a shot like this, there needs to be a focal point. One thing or bunch of fish so concentrated that you eye is drawn to it.

My 2 Cents! and that said, it is still a nice capture.

  3. I agree, the color is gorgeous. It would be nice to have a little reef in the bottom and a little wider perspective. This subject is much more video-friendly. The motion enhances it visually and compensates for the compositional difficulties. One of my favorite video subjects...

  4. Simon - When are you free for Egypt? I have a contract to circumnavigate the RS during the summer and it will include Egypt.

Craig & Bob, pick the bones out of these snaps from Egypt two-weeks ago, Viz was so bad that all we could see was bloody goldfish!!!

  6. And so on!

  9. Great as usual, Bob. Here's a case where fisheye distortion adds excitement. I love the Red Sea for this kind of stuff.

Wonder how I can get a full-frame fisheye on a video camera? I suppose all I need is a dome and a Century .3x. You're inspiring me!

  10. My turn....... muhahahaha

#1: Great job of capturing some sunlight with a digi! Cant belive you did that without it looking blotchy. The transition of light to dark along with the concentration of fish in the middle of the reef makes it. I would have loved a little more detail in the reef, but I am not sure the make a split density filter for a un housing yet. If you shot this in Raw you might try that three exposure method on this shot. Its the perfect type for it,

#2: Love the composition, it looks a tad overexposed on my machine. I can't believe the fish there! I gotta go.

#3: My favorite. Perfect composition fish are extraodinary. A little dodging of the reef area will make the bottom pop a bit more but this one rocks!

#4 :Great too.....different perspective....and still all the fishes!

I envy the place you get to go Bob! SOmeday perhaps I will take my old film get up and be able to join you. :)

  11. Simon - When are you free for Egypt? I have a contract to circumnavigate the RS during the summer and it will include Egypt.

Bob: I'm still waiting for the answers to approx.: 2346 PMs to you ;-)

What do you mean with circumnavigate.

I'm now planning to go beginning of August, and would prefer a deep south tour, because I want to take my Girlfriend with me and she has only 15 logged dives yet and North tour or brothers tour will be to difficult for her.

I f I could find a tour fronm Sunday to Sunday (not thursday to thursday) I maybe do a week brothers tour on may on in late June or early July.

I also plan 2 weeks Sudan in Autum (beginnig of Oktober). Anyone like to join in?

    Simon

  12. I have to dive all the way from Jordan via Saudi Arabia to southern Yemen, then up through Djibuti Eritrea Ethiopia and Sudan to Egypt. This will take around 8 - 10 weeks.

There is a 2-week deep south available in August which takes in all of the off-shore islands as well... That's if you can cope with 300-400 hammerheads at "My Reef"?

  13. Egypt all throughout the summer and then going to the cold water of BC in late August followed by Manado in September. October divorce scheduled. LOL

Oh yes, and 200 hammerheads...crap man I am running out of room on my places to go list. Now another one to add. Current calculations have me living to be 110 years old to accomplish these places.

  14. I envy the place you get to go Bob!   Someday perhaps I will take my old film get up and be able to join you.  :)

Come out to the Red Sea for a live aboard with me during the late summer - I am sure I can find you a few fish!

  15. When will you be in Southerm Egypt, and how do we join you?

    Simon

  16. Greetings all

Sounds like you guys get to go the the RS often. I'm off to Manado in July and really looking forward to that trip. What would you say is the best part of the RS to dive and is live aboard better than land based. What time of the year is good so I can plan a trip to the RS!

    Thanks

    Paul

  17. Yep, we dive there a lot and have done since 1972 - Which should say reams!

It's only 5hrs away from UK.

Optimum time for Red Sea is mid May through until September, but Mid Dec- January can also be very calm, and quiet.

I would alway recommend live aboard over land based unless you like nightlife and blowing extra money.

The offshore Islands of Brother's, Daedelus, Zabargad & Rocky and the St John Reef system are only accessible by live aboard's.

Todays RS boats are very luxurious compared with those of just 10 years ago, and most rival those of anywhere at 1/3 the price.

Most Live aboards for the offshore Islands leave from Hurghada or Ras Galeb (Super new marina built).

Wreck trips leave from Hurghada & Sharm el Sheikh in the Southern Sinai.

Mid June - Zabargad: Turtles Mating. October baby turtles hatch and swim out to sea under the protection of the night (Not during the day specially for tourists!!!).

There's a 2-week trip sailing in early August (Friday - Friday).
