  1. HI there,

Im travelling to the Carribean next week and have just brought a new basic underwater camera (Intova IC600)...im diving with sharks for the first time so really desperate to get some good pics.

There are a few different options on the camera which i have described below and wondering if you can advise which would generally be best.

    Modes -

    Sport

    Scenic

    Night

    Auto

    Pic

    White Balance -

    Daylight

    Auto

    Cloudy

    Tungsten?

    Fluorescent

    ISO -

    Auto

    64

    100

    200

    400

Apologies if these are really basic questions, i am a complete novice to this.

I wont be diving anymore than 20meters and assuming the visibility will be good to very good

All replies will be extremely appreciated.

    Thanks

    Karen

  2. Auto,

    cloudy

    ISO 100

I would seriously consider buy a magic filter from Ryan's Reef Photo, cutting it and placing it inside the housing behind the port since you have no manual white balance.

  4. Well that's not what I wanted to happen. I tried to cancel and it posted the quote. Hmmm, I'll have to work on that --- must be smarter than the software.

Congratulations on your new camera. I'm sure you'll be happy to take some pics to show your friends, especially of the sharks!

Something to consider is to shut off the built-in strobe. It can cause backscatter and is low powered so it will only be of use in very close up pictures anyways. If you do this you may want to consider upping the ASA to 200-400. If your subject is moving by quickly that will also help capture them.

If you're using natural lighting then a filter is really the way to go with this type camera. It seems to work better than any of the built-in white balance settings. However, you can't use the filter and the strobe together because the filter corrects for the missing light. If you use the strobe with the filter you'll get a red image.

If you don't get a filter, Jack Drafahl suggests the Cloudy setting to warm the colors from blue and Fluorescent to remove the green.

It's only a memory card so try out different settings. If it doesn't work you can delete the really bad ones and still have room for more.

    Take care and happy shutterbugging.

  5. To add to what Easy said, you might hop in a 12ft pool with it and take a few shots near the bottom. Try different settings. One problem with upping the ISO on some cameras is you introduce a lot of noise but you may not have much choice without a large external strobe. I agree shutting off the internal strobe (or covering it with black tape) is the thing to do. You can take some high ISO shots (ISO 200-400) topside, load them on your PC and see how they look.

  6. Thank you all for your tips, i will certainly try the cloudy setting and covering the strobe! Im doing a few dives so will try out a few settings and hope for the best!

    Have a nice xmas...
