Last minute questions

  1. I'm leaving in a couple weeks for my first trip with my own camera and housing ... and I have a few last minute questions if anyone is out there ...

    First, here's my rig:

    Canon G9

    OEM WP DC-21 Housing

Sea & Sea YS-15 Auto Strobe

I'll be shooting mostly daytime macro in fairly shallow, warm water - but I will be going on a couple night dives.

    Here are my questions:

    >>> Anyone familiar with any wet filter attachments for the Canon WPDC21? I need something I can add and remove for the shots without the strobe ...

    >>> Can anyone recommend a small underwater grey card?

    >>> Any threads or websites that cover a good list of Do's and Don'ts for beginners? I'm mainly interested in equipment care and handling tips ... best practices to avoid fogging, bring some of these, etc.

Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

This is a good thread to read through. Also, there are some specific, quick DIY tips on the Canon OEM housings in order to put external lenses on them. www.digidiver.net check the compact corner and posts by Brian.

As for a grey card, I simply use a dive slate (white). They're cheap enough, made for diving and clip off to a d-ring.

  3. Thanks!

i bought a small plastic grey card ... we'll see if it withstands the ocean ... worth a shot.

"Whi Bal Raw" - they claim it is "waterproof and virtually indesctructible" ... not sure they've ever taken them down 110 feet every day for a week.

  4. Practically you can acceptably WB on many things in the water, I have used fins (though not the black ones) patches of nearby sand, coral heads and the back of my hand.

They are probably not 'exact' but seem to be 'good enough' for me.

Enjoy - and let us know if the card survives and if you survive the shopkeeper if you take it back under warranty....
