It pretty much uses the same IPS Panel – Considered the best for Photo Editing with 800:1 contrast ratio and highest color gamut, as NEC's 2690 WUXi monitor
Nearly all IPS monitors made by Apple, DELL's ’s 3007WFP-HC, NEC's 2470 WUXi and 2690 WUXi are made with LG Philips panels.
In my view the Eizo is the only choice if you want to have a consistent and reliable properly colour managed workspace - Most folk will not need the additional issue's that such equipment will bring.
If you introduce other issues ( space / budget ) then there are a multitude of options.
I'll throw in another vote for the Dell 2407 HC monitor. I love mine.

Yea - we have a couple of the 2407wfp pre HC suffix monitors at work and they are great. We just crank code and develop software / hardware interfaces on them so fancy colour rendering is not an issue. Though when I have used them for pictures I have been happy enough.
Maybe not 'professional' standard but great value.
Sad part is they seem to be 'discontinued' (here in Europe anyhow) and the suggested Dell replacement looks like a poor substuite with smaller viewing angle etc.
Tomorrow I am starting to look about for some 'old stock' in the supply chain, as I need one for home - price seems OK too at circa £350 ($700).

At this time of year -it's buy equipment for the business or give my money to Uncle Sam. I know there are probably better values out there, but are any of these monitors better than the Eizo? My main interest is having a monitor that matches my Epson 4800 printer output as closely as possible. I am doing more and more prints for display and galleries. I find there are subtle, but noticeable, color and brightness differences with my Apple monitors, even with calibration
I looked at the Dell 2407WFP HC.... doesn't that particular monitor have ghosting problems?
My vote is for the Eizo because it's cheaper and better than the La Cie. It comes with a calibrator and I have the older version.
Of course the new EIZO FORIS HD 27V is what I want for my apartment.

Maybe you should get a different printer then
FWIW do not know if you looked at the Apple's recently but they dropped so much in price (well compared to when I first got one) and the 30" new is about $1650. The extra ports and the screen real estate for pallettes, scopes and the rest is real nice to have. I have the 23" inch a 19" inch Dell and a broadcast monitor hooked up now, but after using the 30" awhile on a couple of projects I am trying to reconfigure the space to fit it in.
I found a great deal on a Sony SDM-P234/B
The monitor has actually been discontinued from Sony, but I found one at Fry's for 1/2 what it originally retailed for, which was around $1000.00
I absolutely love this one.
If you can find one, it might be another option for you. Here is a link to Sony's PDF for it
Cool, someone else who has that Sony P234. I got one at FRYs too and used it for a while. The picture was good, but I swapped mine out for a Dell which I like a lot more. Can't say why - the Sony just seemed dull to me - like the backlight wasn't strong enough or something...
But the backlit buttons on the display were definitely cool :-)

Well, I decided on the Eizo CG241, and it arrived on Monday. Sitting right next to the Apple 23", it is initially difficult to tell them apart when just comparing two average color photographs. Where a real difference is seen is with black and white images or images with large areas of any given hue which displays different levels of saturation and luminance.
The Eizo clearly shows better gradation of greys and colours, and much better shadow detail; it should for the price. Happy so far, now for some printing this weekend and I'll see how that goes.
