100% Shark oil available online

  1. A friend of mine just forwarded me a letter that he wrote to the Vermont Country Store. They are currently selling a product called Oceana BioMarine Tropical Deep Water Squalane for the reduction of wrinkles. 100% natural squalane is derived from the livers of deep-water sharks. You can find it on their website at

Please join me in contacting them to let them know how destructive this is.

  2. If you do write to Vermont Country Store, you might suggest that they could pursue squalene/squalane products made from botanic sources. Kiehl's, for example, uses squalane that's derived from olive oil.

  3. I have been documenting the practice of deep water shark fishing in SE Asia for liver oil. As most of the sharks in the upper water column have been exterminated, traders are now turning to deep water sharks (200 meters down) for another source of revenue. Japan is a primary consumer for this oil. They haul up the sharks, gut them for their livers and drop them back in the water. Not much different than finning but livers instead of fins. It seems that the trade will not stop until every last shark in the greatest depths has been wiped out. Very sad.
