digital iTTL w/ 2 strobes

  1. Hi guys,

Please bare with me on this one. This is a topside photo problelm i'm stuck with and hope to solve with UW gear, oddly enough.

I am trying to get TWO nikon sb-800's to work in iTTL, topside, WITH cables, not CLS. This is for action shots (i.e. birds in flight) where the pre-flash delay and line-of-sight restrictions of the CLS system render it useless. Apparently this is impossible with cables, as concluded in this thread i started on photo.net:

This brings me to the UW ttl converters i've read about like ikelike, sea&sea, heinrichs weikamp etc. From brief reading, these appear to give dual strobe ttl w DSLR's, but seem geared to a specific set of UW strobes. I run full manual on my D200, aquatica, sb-105's rig, so no experience with these converters.

My question is, would I be able to use one of these ttl converters with a D300/D200 and 2 nikon sb-800's topside??? I would of course need some sort of Nikonos 5-pin to hot shoe adapter on both ends. I know Fantasea must have that for thier sb-800 housing and all housing manufacts make the other end.

If they will not work for the sb-800's, i could theoretically work it with a pair of small compatible UW strobes like z240's topside huh??

I would really appreciate advice from someone who knows these ttl converters. Cheers,

    Chris
