Canon WPDC21 (G9) Question

  1. Ok ... silly question, but ...

I have the Canon housing for the G9 and a Sea & Sea Light Arm/Tray.

Is there a way to attach the Canon weights while using the tray?

I have the same conf. IMHO, I dont think I need the weights.

Especially when you have a strobe with you.

Why do you need the extra weights?

I have another question...... can we use and wide angle lens with this housing? How?

  3. When I use the WPDC21 housing, there is no button for CONTROL DIAL.

Is there any way to overcome this problem?

Since I can not use COTROL DIAL, I can not take photo manually.

    Thanks

You can access all controls - including those that normally are accessed through the "dial" ...

You must hold down the "custom" button on the upper left corner of the camera while pressing either "left" or "right" on the four-way control. I found it to be pretty easy to do underwater.

I normally set that button to set the custom white balance as well - in C1 it does Custom WB1 and in C2 it does custom WB2. WB1 was with strobes and WB2 was ambient light.

I was really, really happy with the G9 underwater in the Canon housing.

I also added a little focus light mount that was helpful during the day and critical during my one night dive. I found the Fantasea Nano Focus Light to be very bright - enough to be my only light at night - and VERY battery efficient ... I didn't have to change the batteries once all week.

Here's a picture of the mount I added with epoxy:

And to definitively answer my own question from the beginning of the thread ...

My G9 in the housing alone is very positively buoyant, but with S&S double arm set, focus light and two strobes it was slightly negative without adding any additional weight ... found it to be well balanced and easy to use UW.

I did dive once with no arms and tray and I added three canon weights and it was just right.

  5. I am a relative novice here but live aboard a boat in BVI so spend a lot of time in the water down to 20 ft max. just snorkeling as I am always solo.

I am using an Olympus 710 in an Olympus housing and am close to upgrading to a Canon G9 and WP-DC21 I see quite a few reports of fogging problems, one guy thinks its battery heat even in shallow dives in warm water and has not been able to cure it with multiple dessicant packs, any thoughts on this ?

Also would like info on which filters, wide angle lens etc. to get and where to find the weights. I am in California now and want to get all the bits before I return.

    All help apreciated.
