It is quite possible that next April I will be in Costa Rica's Golfo Dulce.
I was wondering if that time of year was worth diving the local area (have heard it is good for Humpback spotting from surface) and even maybe a trip out to Coco.
If it is any recommendations would be welcome as I would love to see anything there is to offer in the water there.
(had a bad experience up on the Guanecaste coast last time i was there was hoping to not repeat)
I have been trying to find a 2-3 day trip to Cocos, but it doesn't seem to exist.
If anyone knows of one I would appreciate it, right now I am looking at other options but don't want it to be more than 5 days and don't want it to cost over the moon, I just want an experience !
It may not be an option for the trip we are planning but I just want to make sure.
Isn't Cocos like 300 miles out to sea or something? I'd be surprised if that was offered for less than a week's trip...that's probably a two-day crossing at least one way, possibly both depending on prevailing wind and current.
I usually see people recommend the Undersea Hunter - at least that's the website I always drool over when imagining I could afford a Cocos trip. I think their trips are like 10-11 days to make enough onsite stay for the crossing to be worthwhile...

it's a 36 hour crossing to get to the island.
all trips are 10 day trips, on the undersea hunters or the agressor...
but it's really worth it
Okeanos Aggressor is 8 (unless they changed it this year). Even then, that leaves you only with 5 days of diving. Not enough IMHO!! I couldn't imagine doing all that traveling just to do 2-3 days of diving on Cocos Island
Yeh I checked out undersea hunter ... i just can't fit what they offer into my schedule ... damn it ... thats twice to costa rica and no cocos !
Thanks guys .. you pretty much confirmed what I had found out from searching my self ... just hoped that someone maybe knew of a secret super fast boat trip to it.
Most trips are probably already sold out. We have a trip already full for Jan 2009. As a single you may find the odd spot or cancellation.
You will spend 3 days traveling there and back.
It is well worth it.
I guess a seaplane might be able to do it quicker, but it'd be a bit of an adventure to dive off of.
The Okeanos Aggressor has both 8 and 10 day trips. April is generally not a good time to go to the Cocos. Anytime between early June and early Sept are the prime times to go. I have 5 spots left on our trip in August , 08 if anyone is interested in going. It'll be my 10 or 11 time there and I never get bored of the place. Unfortunately, it will probably be my last time because both the Aggressor and the even more costly Hunter are raising their prices dramatically. It's my favorite place to dive for the large pelagic marine life, it beats anywhere else I've been to by far.
