I have been looking at the choices in strobe arms for a S2/Ikelite rig and can't decided whether to order the package including strobe arms from Ikelite or outsource with TLC or ULCS strobe arms to have a choice in sections and lengths. What length of strobe arms will work in both a macro(60 or 105mm) application and also work well with say a 17-35mm zoom with the Fuji S2 DSLR?
As always, I appreciate your input since there is no substitute for experience and trial and error is very expensive in this hobby/pursuit!

I really like the UL arm sets the best but they are very expensive. I have been using the TLC arms for several years and they seem to be more than adequate, especially for the price difference. I have 8" and 11" arms and have used both for WA and macro. I never bought a macro only arm set.
No 1" diameter arm system will match the holding power of our 1.25" system, but 1" systems are fine underwater especially with the new smaller digital strobes. The deluxe packages shown on following URL represent excellent value and will interchange with TLC and ULCS arm systems which we teasingly refer to as "non standard" arms.
2x 8" ultralight arm segments on each side for wideangle gives you a good spread.
1x 8" arm segment on each side gives you good lighting control for macro.

Funny. I like the opposite. I like two arms for macro and one long one for wide angle. The single arm is easier to work with and holds better, but it's harder to control strobe position is tight spots.
Ideal would be 2x 4" arm segments on each side for macro - but I am too cheap...:-)
