Scootering with a large still camera

  1. Here's a little video showing how to use a tow-behind scooter and large still camera (Nikon D200 in this case) together. Many people think scootering is incompatible with serious underwater still photography. This video shows how the two work perfectly together.

The camera is clipped to the either the chest, hip, or both D-rings.

The video was shot with a Sony A1U in a Gates housing swivel-mounted on an X-scooter.

  2. I can see towing the camera to a far out reef and then parking, photographing and then hauling it back but I think it looks like way too much work to bother with it when scootering for fun. Nice video though and the monkey diving is fun to watch.

  3. I think a scooter is a powerful tool for a wide angle photography or video. You can scout out shots and setup your shots faster.

However, I agree with you. If just want to have fun on a scooter, the camera is a bit of extra work and slows you down a bit. In Bonaire, I left the scooter-mounted video behind on most dives... just to maximize the fun.
