China Airlines vs Qatar Airways?

  1. Monrin' all!

Can you please help me which of the above two carriers to choose for a long long flight to Bali? I have heard good and bad about both of them and have to decide soon on one of them. What interests me in particular are the following:

-do they weight the bag you take on board? (mmm, my peli is probably slightly overweight for a carry-on, but I can compensate with a big smile and hold it weightlessly during check-in time :D

-can extra weight be bought for not much bucks?

-plus any travel experience with both welcome (what about service, are they fine on schedule, etc...)

Main concern is the first issue, the carry-on.

    Thanks in advance,

    Zook

  2. I've one experience with China Air going to Bali and it was a good one.

While standing in line at LAX, a guy was going through the line. He spotted a small Pelican and questioned its weight. It was small and had very little in it. He picked it up and then gave it back with a nodding approval. He didn't question the roller bags or backpacks that weighed 15kgs each.

I'm not a fan of hard cases like Pelicans. They are too bulky and heavy for the amount of gear they carry.

  3. can't really comment on the weight allowances nor on china airlines, but from a services standpoint qatar aiways is top notch whether in economy or business class...

  4. I only flew China Air from the US so luggage allowance was generous. Not sure what their allowance is for flights originating from Europe. Their newer Airbus's are quite nice even in economy with individual entertainment systems.

  5. thanks for the input, guys, at the moment it seems that only QA has available seats for the time we want to go... will get my peli onboard somehow I guess...:D
